Leslie du Roure

We would like for you all to meet the newest member of the Stark / Raving design team. Leslie du Roure just joined the team in July 2018 as an Art Director. We sat down with Leslie and asked 20 hard-hitting questions. We learned a lot – like not to challenge her to a game of ping-pong! Meet Leslie!

S/R: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
LR: I’m a California native, born in San Diego and grew up in Truckee, North Lake Tahoe! I’m an outdoor enthusiast, love to ski, travel, and garden. I’m also first generation American with dual citizenship and I’m fluent in French. The majority of my family resides in France including both of my parents. I have a sister that lives in Philly and I love spending time with her and her beautiful little family. Being an Aunt is the best and try to spoil my niece and nephew every chance that I get. They call me Auntie LouLou.

S/R: Tell us a little about your background.
LR: I’ve been designing for over 13 years in a variety of industries. It all started with packaging design in soft goods to designing large digital outdoor billboards at an advertising firm in the entertainment and hospitality industry. I’ve also worked in marketing / advertising for heath & wellness and commercial real estate.

S/R: Why did you pursue a career in design?
LR: I’ve always loved creating as a child and would spend hours drawing, painting and building things. I have a lot of talented artists in my family, which deeply influenced my love for the arts. After graduating college, I interned for several fashion photographers in Paris and thought I would be a fashion photographer one day. Once I returned, I enrolled in a graphic design class and I immediately knew it was the perfect medium for me. I loved being able to combine all the things that I love – drawing, photography, textures and colors into a single composition. There was no turning back.

S/R: What would you be doing if you weren’t a designer?
LR: Seeing that I love the outdoors and gardening, I could see myself as a landscaper or in agriculture. I’m also very fascinated with geology, so possibly a geologist.

S/R: Left handed or right handed?
LR: I’m a southpaw!! They say lefties are more creative and I have to agree! Fun fact – only 10% of the population is left-handed, so I guess that means I’m pretty darn special. ;)

S/R: Tell us something that inspires you?
LR: I get inspiration from other artists, walking around the city Boston, my travels and being in nature. I follow talented artists on Instagram and I’m always keeping an eye out for good design everywhere I go.

S/R: Favorite color?
LR: My go-to color is typically white but I also love navy blue.

S/R: Favorite font?
LR: Serif – Didot
Sans-serif – Super Grotesk

S/R: What are some of your favorite travel destinations?
LR: Other than visiting family in the South of France and skiing in the French alps, some of my most memorable trips have been Cinque Terre, Greece and Amsterdam. I’m a huge fan of London and Paris.

S/R: Where do you want to go next?
LR: Morocco, Thailand, Lake Como, Madrid, Ireland, Australia.

S/R: Does your scooter have a name?
LR: Betty, like the actress/comedian Betty White. It’s white and I’m so in love with my scooter. It’s so easy to get around the city and I can park it wherever I want. Hands down the best purchase!

S/R: Favorite season?
LR: Summer – I need sunshine. I guess that’s the California girl in me. I really don’t mind the winter, that’s only if we get a lot of snow so that I go out on the slopes.

S/R: If you could have dinner with one person – dead or alive – who would it be and why?
LR: My grandfather on my mother's side. He passed away when I was 7yrs old. I have fond memories of spending summers at his place and he would always be in the garden. Each morning we would pick fresh produce together and ride around on his little tractor. I’d like to have a conversation with him again as an adult. He was a very humble and intelligent man.

S/R: What is your guilty pleasure food?
LR: Pain au Chocolat (Chocolate croissant) or any type of pastry.

S/R: What is something that will never be in your recipe book?
LR: Chicken Pot Pie

S/R: Coffee or tea?
LR: Coffee – love a good latte.

S/R: What is your favorite band of all time?
LR: I love so many different types of music but just to name a few – Pearl Jam, White Buffalo, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, The Doors, Elton John (trying to get tickets to his concert this fall) and a ton of 80’s!

S/R: Favorite thing to do outside of work?
LR: I try to stay active – go for a run, yoga or paddleboard if it’s nice out. Otherwise, I enjoy getting together with friends and checking out new restaurants in town.

S/R: Cats or dogs?
LR: Dogs!! Grew up with two Saint Bernards – I miss them so much!

S/R: Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
LR: I’m a decent ping-pong player and I can get pretty competitive. ;)

Thank you Leslie! It's a pleasure having your here at Stark / Raving!
