Jasmine Bou-Nassif

We would like for you all to meet one the members of the Stark / Raving design team. Jasmine Bou-Nassif joined us in August 2017, and right away we knew she had a discerning eye for creative! But, we wanted to get to know the "real" Jasmine. So, this past week we sat down with Jasmine and asked 25 hard-hitting questions. We learned a lot! But, unfortunately Brussel sprouts will now longer appear on our lunch menu. Here's Jasmine!

S/R: Coffee or Tea?
JB: Definitely coffee over tea any day. I started drinking coffee at a pretty young age because I liked the taste. Then my parents told me it could stump my growth, and I was super excited to not be the tallest girl in the 4th grade. It worked, I’m still 5’3”.

S/R: Dogs or cats?
JB: I used to be 100% a cat person, I was terrified of dogs as a kid (okay really all animals). But, now it’s switched and I love dogs, still like cats, but I definitely want a dog as a pet one day.

S/R: Favorite season?
JB: FALL! I love the weather (can start pulling out my sweaters, but don’t need a puffy coat yet), the leaves changing color, Halloween, my birthday, Thanksgiving – fall is the best.

S/R: Favorite font?
JB: Apex is still at the top of my favorites list. It comes in serif and sans-serif, has a bunch of different weights, and makes for a great headline.

S/R: Favorite color?
JB: My least favorite question because it depends on my mood. I’m going with yellow today since it’s bright and fun, and I like to think if I were a color I’d be yellow.

S/R: If you could have any car what would you want?
JB: I am not a car person. I’ve owned one car in life, she’s a Chevy and her name is Bev.

S/R: Why did you want to be a designer?
JB: I always loved making art growing up, but I wasn’t sure how to make a career out of it. When I learned about graphic design and everything you could do with it, I was hooked. I love that I can be creative all day, make on the computer, or with my hands, and have a tangible product at the end of the day.

S/R: What inspires you?
JB: It’s great to use online resources like Pinterest and Behance, but I find it more important to always be looking around you. I see so much walking to work every day, billboards, posters, ads on the sides of trucks, fliers, the signage for all the businesses in town – it all makes an impact. Making something with my hands sparks inspiration too because it challenges you to think differently. I love to cook, paint, and recently learned to knit.

S/R: What would you do if you weren’t a designer?
JB: I loved Physics in high school, so I’d probably be some sort of engineer…don’t tell my dad (he’s an engineer).

S/R: What food can’t you have enough of?
JB: Dark chocolate, it’s the best.

S/R: What’s something that will never be in your recipe book?
JB: Steamed Brussel sprouts, that’s the only way my mom made them when I was a kid. They smell like feet.

S/R: What do you do outside of work?
JB: I teach Inferno Hot Pilates! #plankforme
I also practice hot yoga and am training for my second yoga competition.

S/R: Favorite place you’ve traveled to in the world?
JB: Definitely Malaga, Spain, a beautiful city on the water in the south of Spain. I always wanted to travel to Spain, and when I finally had the opportunity I traveled the eastern coast and the last stop was Malaga. The people were so nice and friendly, it was sunny every day, the food was to die for, and the sites were amazing – Medieval castles, Roman ruins, churches, the Picasso Museum – did I mention I was an Art History minor? I also had the most amazing churros con chocolate…many times.

S/R: Where is a place in the world you want to visit?
JB: I swear when you come back from a trip abroad you come back with a million more places you want to travel to than when you left. There are so many on my list, but Prague is at the top of it.

S/R: Left-handed or right-handed?
JB: Right-handed. My sister is a lefty, it’s so annoying to sit next to her at dinner.

S/R: Do we still need a fax number on business cards?
JB: No, welcome to 2017.

S/R: What do you like most about your job?
JB: I’m very lucky to have a boss who is also a mentor.

S/R: What do you like least about your job?
JB: We still don’t have a water bubbler…hint, hint…

S/R: Do you recycle?
JB: I do recycle.

S/R: Do you always recycle?
JB: I do not always recycle…

S/R: Where are you from?
JB: Billerica, MA, the home of the Indians football team!

S/R: Where did you go to college?
JB: Boston University, I always wanted to go there, but now they won’t stop emailing me about commencement photos, it’s been almost 2 years.

S/R: What is one thing very few people know about you?
JB: I’m half Lebanese and last summer I found out that I have a Lebanese birth certificate in addition to my US one!

S/R: What are your top 3 favorite bands/artists?
JB: I don’t really keep track of artists anymore, but I will forever love NSYNC. I also like Kenny Chesney and ABBA, if I have to choose.

S/R: Beer or wine?
JB: I’m not picky, I love both.

Thank you Jasmine! It's a pleasure having your here at Stark / Raving – and we will overlook the NSYNC comment.
