Please join me in welcoming Dana Morgenstein to the Stark / Raving Branding + Digital Marketing team as our new Senior Copywriter. Learn more about Dana with our 20 questions!
S/R: Where are you from?
DM: I grew up in southern Connecticut, but I’ve lived in Boston for more than half of my lifetime, so do I get to say I’m from here now?
S/R: What is your role at Stark / Raving?
DM: I’m a Senior Copywriter. Being brand new here makes a senior role feel a little odd: I’m a seasoned copywriter but also a baby duck.
S/R: Do you have any pets?
DM: I have an elderly, obese grey and black tabby cat named Isabella Underfootskaya. I adore her.
S/R: What was the last book you read?
DM: The Mill on the Floss, by George Eliot. (It’s quite possible that I’ve read one or two terrible, trashy things since then, but those don’t count.)
S/R: Favorite place you have visited?
DM: Seattle! I have friends out there, I love how green and lush all the nature is out there, and it has a lot of character.
S/R: What food can’t you have enough of?
DM: Cheese, and ice cream.
S/R: If you could have superpowers for one day, what power would you choose?
DM: While mind-reading seems the most immediately compelling, I don’t think I actually want to know what people think about me, so I think I’ll go with flying. I’ve had a few flying dreams and they were great.
S/R: What’s a fun fact about yourself?
DM: Over the pandemic, I took up painting (mostly acrylic, some watercolor), and even sold a few canvases!
S/R: What is your favorite tv show?
DM: Currently running, probably RuPaul’s Drag Race; currently defunct, Adventure Time. I’m also a bit of a Trekkie.
S/R: Beer or wine?
DM: Beer, for sure. I enjoy IPAs, although I have encountered a few that were too cruelly bitter even for me.
S/R: What is your favorite season?
DM: Spring! Everything comes back to life. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been in the habit of observing all the seasonal plants as they emerge: snowdrops, then crocuses, then tulips and daffodils.
S/R: Who is your favorite band and what is your favorite song they’ve released?
DM: My current obsession is a band called the Lickerish Quartet, and my current personal anthem is their song “Lighthouse Spaceship.”
S/R: What is something that will never be in your recipe book?
DM: I really wish I liked eggs, because they’re so versatile and fun. I wish I had a reason to learn to crack them one-handed.
S/R: What is your favorite holiday?
DM: I’m not all that keen on holidays in general because I’m bad at mandatory fun, but Halloween and Easter do deliver explosions of candy so I’m fine with that.
S/R: Why did you pursue a career in writing?
DM: I was an absurdly bookish kid. It was inevitable that I was going to be a writer of some kind.
S/R: What would you do if you weren’t a copywriter?
DM: I would probably be a visual artist, possibly a cartoonist.
S/R: If your life was a reality tv show, what would it be called?
DM: I have no desire to be on a reality TV show, but if I wrote a memoir it would be called I Can Smile About It Now But At The Time It Was Terrible.
S/R: Where do you want to travel to next?
DM: I’ve wanted to go to the UK for ages.
S/R: What do you like to do outside of work?
DM: Aside from endless doomscrolling, I enjoy drawing and painting, and regularly attend pub trivia and karaoke nights. I also love thrift stores, live music, and the occasional lazy afternoon devoted entirely to a good book.
S/R: What’s your favorite board game?
DM: Trivial Pursuit!
